Meritor® Launches PlatinumShield® III Coating for New and Remanufactured Brake Shoes
New Process Offers Superior Coating Adherence to Shoes
LAS VEGAS -- Meritor(®) (NYSE: MTOR) announced today at Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week '16 (HDAW) that it launched PlatinumShield(®) III coating for aftermarket customers purchasing new and remanufactured Meritor brake shoes.
"PlatinumShield was a game-changer when it was introduced in 2009 to extend brake shoe life, and this second improvement in the product offers a new benchmark in coating adherence," said Aaron Bickford, director, Brake and Wheel End, Aftermarket for Meritor. "PlatinumShield III takes the technology even further by offering a considerable increase in durability and maintenance savings."
The third generation of the corrosion protectant centers on a refinement in the shoe preparation and coating process, which offers superior adhesion of the PlatinumShield III coating to the brake shoe's metal surface. The result is a dramatic improvement in resistance to corrosion.

Rust-jacking occurs when rust forms on bare shoe metal under the lining, causing the lining to lift and crack. Since its introduction, the PlatinumShield technology has protected more than 25 million new and remanufactured brake shoes.
