New Smith 28HE Series Boilers Provide Increased Thermal and Combustion Efficiency

WESTFIELD, Mass., June 2004 -- Smith Cast Iron Boilers, Westfield, Mass., has introduced the 28HE Series High Efficiency Boiler to complement its broad line of cast iron commercial boilers. The 28HE Series offers the highest combustion and thermal efficiencies possible with forced draft firing. The 28HE Series offers thermal and combustion efficiencies of up to 86% for oil and 83% for gas.

Series 28HE boilers are available in 15 basic sizes, with gross output ratings from 931 to 4,622 MBH, used in either water or steam systems and may be fired with light oil, gas or gas/light oil. The wide output range makes the 28HE Series ideal for a variety of applications including apartments, schools, offices, hospitals, and other commercial and institutional buildings.

The boiler incorporates the field-proven design of 28A Series boilers with revised flue gas travel from increased baffle surface area. Heat transfer rods, extra thick three-inch insulated metal jacket, baffled clean out covers, and specifically matched power burners were selected for the design to provide higher efficiency.

Quality manufacturing includes precision-machined cast iron sections to ensure dimensional accuracy. Graphite port connectors are used on the 28HE to provide the installation ease of a gasket and the longevity of a push nipple to ensure reliable performance and minimize callbacks. The estimated payback level of the 28HE Series on a typical installation is estimated to be approximately one year at current fuel levels.
