Blank Stacking Systems Increase the Efficiency of Sheet Metal Cut-to-Length and Blanking Operations

Atlas Technologies (Fenton, MI) designs and builds automatic blank stacking systems that increase the efficiency of cut-to-length operations and stacking of blanks as they exit a blanking press or trapezoid shear. Atlas stackers handle rectangular, trapezoid, patterned or irregular shapes, and protect the quality of exposed metal or prepainted steel, since features of the stackers help to prevent marring of surface finish.

A typical stacker system includes: a run-out conveyor that moves the part away from the coil material being fed for the stroke, an overhead magnetic belt or roller conveyor to position the part for stacking, and an adjustable stacking box or side guide arrangement that ensures an even stack with uniform edges and straightness.

Most stackers also use a lift table that adjusts the height of the stack as the blanks accumulate, to achieve a constant drop distance and a more even stack.

Atlas stackers typically include integrated equipment that moves the full stacks out and empty pallets into the system, using either an exit conveyor or a powered cart. Existing pallets or dunnage can usually be accommodated, although they are not necessary in many applications.

Atlas also builds bundle turnovers (to re-orient blanks) and integrates blank washers and rollcoaters into blank handling systems.

Controlled handling of wobbly sheet metal blanks has always been a difficult task. In light of today's trends toward larger blanks, faster press speeds, and higher quality standards, it's more important that ever to get the right automation for the job. Atlas combines its proven stacking system designs with over 30 years of application expertise to ensure that the blank handling automation meets production requirements, with high R&M and a strong ROI.
