May 3, 2006 - Ring magnet construction enables Rapidaptor® quick release bit holder to hold long/heavy screws securely, even in awkward installation situations. Bit is always inserted into screw to its max depth of penetration, to achieve max positive drive and high transfer of force. Identical screwing depth is maintained when ring magnets make contact with surface of workpiece. Rapid-Out function allows small bit sizes to be removed without use of auxiliary tool.

New from Wera: Rapidaptor® Quick Release Bit Holder with Ring Magnet

5th March 2006

Optimum screw-holding functionality in all installation situations

Presentation at the Hardware Fair / Practical World 2006 in Cologne /
Target group: Tradesmen working in wood / Even holds long screws
securely on the bit / Advantageous especially in awkward installation
situations, e.g. indoor extensions / Significant addition for the Rapidaptor®
quick release bit holder introduced in 2005 / For ¼" bits as per DIN 3126-C
6,3 and E 6,3 /

Cologne / Wuppertal. At the Hardware Fair / Practical World 2006 in
Cologne, Wera Werk Hermann Werner GmbH & Co. KG presented an
important innovation for craftsmen working in wood. The screwdriver and
screwdriver insert specialist is offering the Rapidaptor® quick release bit
holder which they developed and patented, now also with a ring magnet.

The ring magnet construction means that long and heavy screws, such as
those frequently used in indoor extensions, can now be held securely on the
bit, even in awkward installation situations. The working principle is simple
and effective: When a screw is placed on the bit head, the ring magnet
attracts a floating sleeve onto the screw head. The strong magnetic force
holds the screw securely. There is no longer any need to hold the screw
manually during the screwing operation. Losing screws and looking for them
laboriously after they have fallen are now things of the past.

A further advantage is that the bit is always inserted into the screw to its
maximum depth of penetration thanks to the ring magnet construction. This
achieves maximum positive drive, and thereby the highest possible transfer
of force. The perfectly snug fit further prevents premature wear to the bit and
screw.

When the outer face of the ring magnets makes contact with the surface of
the workpiece - for example plasterboard or a wood panel - there is always
an identical screwing depth. This geometrically related bit stop is beneficial
for the user above all when he has to insert many identical screws to the
same depth.

But the other system properties of the Wera innovation, which have already
proven themselves in the model without a ring magnet, also encourage rapid,
ergonomic, and efficient working. Thus, the Rapidaptor® quick release bit
holder provides the possibility of inserting the bit into the nest without
activating the sleeve. The bit locks automatically as soon as it is inserted into
the screw, and it locates firmly without rocking. To change the bit, the sleeve
merely has to be pushed forward, and the holder is pulled away far enough
until it is felt and heard to release the bit. The Rapid-Out function allows
even the smallest bit sizes (e. g. PH0/PZ0 or TX5) to be removed simply and
easily without the use of an auxiliary tool.

The freely movable sleeve additionally allows the user to attach a battery
powered or electric screwdriver to the sleeve during the screwing operation.
This simplifies insertion into the screw and prevents slipping off or any
possible damage to the workpiece.

The Rapidaptor® quick release bit holders from Wera accept ¼"-Bits as per
either DIN 3126-C 6,3 or E 6,3, and therefore offer a very high degree of
flexibility.
