July 30, 2009 - Model DP11(TM) PTFE-based, metal-polymer plain bearings optimize dry wear performance in high-frequency, low-amplitude oscillating applications. Units feature steel backing, onto which porous bronze interlayer is sintered, in turn which is impregnated/overlaid with bearing layer composed of PTFE with solid lubricant and fillers. Featuring operating temperature range of -200 to +280°C, devices offer maximum sliding speed of 2.5 msec dry and 5.0 msec oiled.

High-Performance, Metal-Polymer Bearings for High-Frequency Oscillating Applications

GGB, formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings, now offers new PTFE-based, metal-polymer plain bearings specially designed to provide improved dry wear performance in high frequency, low amplitude oscillating applications.

Called DP11(TM), the bearings feature a steel backing onto which is sintered a porous bronze interlayer impregnated and overlaid with a bearing layer composed of PTFE with solid lubricant and fillers. The proprietary formulation and processing of the bearing layer provides enhanced, low friction bearing performance, and the steel backing provides mechanical strength.

The bearings comply with the European Union directive 2000/53/EC - End of Life Vehicles (ELV) concerning on the elimination of hazardous materials in the construction of passenger cars and light trucks and the directive 2002/95/EC - RoHS regulation concerning the elimination of hazardous materials in electrical and electronic equipment.

The DP11 bearings have been successfully validated in automotive applications such as clutches, pulley dampers, belt tensioners and dual mass flywheels. They are also recommended for industrial applications, requiring dry wear and low friction performance under high-frequency, low- amplitude oscillating conditions.

Manufactured to specific user requirements, the material is available in a variety of configurations including cylindrical and flanged bearings, strip, modified standard components, thrust washers, flanged washers, half bearings, flat components, deep-drawn parts, pressings and stampings.

Coefficient of thermal expansion is 11 x 10-6 /K parallel to surface and 30 x 10-6 /K normal to surface; maximum sliding speed is 2.5 m/s dry and 5.0 m/s oiled; maximum PU factor is 1.0 N/mm2 x m/s = W/mm2 dry and 10.0 N/mm2 x m/s = W/mm2 oiled; coefficient of friction is 0.04 - 0.25 dry and 0.02 - 0.08 oiled; operating temperature range is -200°C to +280°C; compressive yield strength is 350 MPa; maximum static load is 250 MPa; maximum dynamic load is 140 MPa; recommended mating surface finish Ra is 0.4 ± 0.1 µm (steel) and mating surface hardness is >350 HB.
