Beam Lead PIN Diode is scratch- and impact-resistant.

November 30, 2005 - Fabricated with HMIC silicon-glass process on epitaxial wafers, MA4PBL027 is fully passivated with silicon dioxide, silicon nitride, and BCB protective polymer. Its Ct of 30 fF, Rs of 2.8 V, and Ls of 0.3 nH make product suited for multi-throw switches, switched-pad attenuators, and switched line phase shifters in microwave control circuits. Switching speeds less than 50 ns are achieved with MA-COM standard, DR65-0001, SMT, ±5 V PIN diode driver.

M/A-COM Announces Expansion of Beam Lead Pin Diode Portfolio

New HMIC Silicon Beam Lead Diode Is Designed to Outperform Other Diodes Deployed in Wideband and Broadband Switching Applications

LOWELL, Mass. Nov. 3, 2005 - M/A-COM, a business unit of Tyco Electronics and a leading provider of wireless radio frequency (RF), microwave and millimeter wave components, today announced the MA4PBL027 HMIC silicon beam lead PIN diode, an addition to the beam lead PIN diode group. The HMIC silicon beam lead PIN diode is designed to outperform existing diode solutions in a variety of wideband and broadband switching applications and is fabricated with M/A-COM's proprietary HMIC silicon-glass process. The diode utilizes the HMIC performance advantages of lower loss, smaller frequency dispersion and improved RF incident operating power.

"M/A-COM is committed to developing products that utilize the HMIC process, and the design of this silicon beam lead PIN diode is the latest example of M/A-COM's dedication to engineering for highly repeatable parametric uniformity in mass production volumes," said Jim Brogle, PIN diode senior design engineer, M/A-COM.

The MA4PBL027 diode is fabricated on epitaxial wafers, which are designed to provide highly repeatable electrical characteristics and extremely low parasitics. The MA4PBL027 HMIC silicon beam lead PIN diode is fully passivated with silicon dioxide, silicon nitride and a BCB protective polymer. The low Ct (30 fF), respectable Rs (2.8 V) and small Ls (0.3 nH) make it extremely useful for multi-throw switches, switched-pad attenuators and switched line phase shifters in microwave control circuits. The switching speeds, which are less than 50 ns, are achieved with a MA-COM standard, DR65-0001, surface mount, +/- 5V PIN diode driver.

The silicon-glass beam lead PIN diode device features one silicon pedestal embedded inside of a low loss, low dispersion glass, which supports the beam-leads. The diode is formed on the top of the pedestal, with air-bridges connecting the diode to the beam-leads. The topside is fully encapsulated with silicon nitride and has an additional BCB polymer layer for scratch and impact protection, which prevent damage to the junction and the air-bridges during handling and assembly. The individual diodes exhibit excellent series resistance, lower capacitance, and fast nano-second switching times.

Price and Availability
The MA4PBL027 is available from stock and is priced at approximately $3.75, in quantities of 10,000. Contact M/A-COM's domestic and international sales channels for price and delivery quotes. Datasheets and supporting technical documents are available online at www.macom.com.
