C & D Technologies' Powercom Divison Introduces Additions to the Liberty® Series Supermax™ Battery Line

Exceptional 2000 Ampere-Hour Capacity For The Most Demanding Applications

Blue Bell, PA - November 19, 2002 - C&D Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: CHP), Powercom Division, a leading North American producer and marketer of complete, integrated standby power systems, today announced the release of the Liberty® Series 2000 SuperMAX™ HD-2000. A true 2000 Ampere-hour valve regulated lead-acid battery.

The Liberty Series SuperMAX Battery System, designed for exceptional performance and extended battery life, is the result of years of research and design. The SuperMAX's features include horizontal plate orientation for better cycling capabilities and a movable positive post seal that reduces potential stress on
the cover, both of which help in extending service life. The SuperMAX ships as rack frames with removable shelves and a solid base plate for installation cost and time savings.

The SuperMAX HD-2000 utilizes two Maximizer™ catalysts to aid in the recombination process, reducing float current and maintaining cell capacity. This advanced catalyst technology reduces cell degradation, extending overall battery life. These new systems, as with the rest of the product line, can be easily
visually inspected since they come complete with C&D's oversized clear protective covers and do not require series or parallel connections as with most systems of this capacity. The large Ampere-hour SuperMAX is available in a low gravity option, the SuperMAX HDL-1700. The SuperMAX HDL-1700 is engineered for low float applications (2.2OVpc) and provides for parallel operation with 1.215 specific gravity flooded batteries. The HDL-1700 minimizes cost by reducing the number of parallel strings
required for high capacity-low float voltage operations.

"The introduction of higher capacity products came in response to the success of the SuperMAX and the technologies we incorporated into the design." stated Dennis Barber, Product Specialist for the C&D Powercom Division. "End users demanded a larger capacity single cell and we have been able to respond."

The Liberty Series 2000 SuperMAX Battery System is ideal for virtually any application including central office, cellular, UPS, PBX, and photovoltaic. The complete system includes the batteries, rack, weight distribution plate, intercell connectors, top termination assemblies, protective covers, and accessories and comes in multiple configurations.
