The Baker Company Introduces New Model of ChemoSHIELD® Barrier Isolater Designed for Handling Hazardous Pharmaceuticals Compounds

SANFORD, Maine - The Baker Company has introduced a smaller, two-glove position model of the ChemoSHIELD® Barrier Isolator that offers a contained, negative-pressure work area suitable for chemotherapy agents or IV admixtures that can be harmful to pharmacy personnel. The ChemoSHIELD® Model CS500 creates a unidirectional HEPA-filtered airflow of better than ISO Class 5 (Class 100) air cleanliness conditions within the negative-pressure chamber to prevent migration of hazardous contaminants to the outside and minimize cross-contamination across the direct compounding area.

The ChemoSHIELD® Model CS500 (5 ft. wide) offers a two-glove position, while the original Model CS600 (6 ft. wide) offers a three-glove position in the main chamber.

ChemoSHIELD® SS500 Features
o Ergonomic design includes a slanted viewscreen angled at 10° with top hinge to allow full opening for loading of pharmacy equipment, oval gloveports (with two glove positions) offer maximum reach to all interior surfaces for users of different heights, negative-pressure interchange permits secure pass-thru in and out of the work area.
o Product protection is assured through a main chamber pressure that is negative to the room. The pass-thru interchange is slightly more negative than the main chamber to prioritize cleanliness in the main chamber while ensuring containment of hazardous compounds in the main work area.
o Designed to comply with NIOSH's call for cabinets used to prepare chemotherapy drugs to be exhausted to the outdoors because of the risk of vaporization of hazardous drugs.
o A unique plenum design employs a high-performance airflow system that provides optimum protection from particulates, extends filter life and reduces cost of ownership.

The Baker Company, a world leader in the design and manufacture of biological safety cabinets, clean benches, fume hoods, powder weighing stations, animal research products and barrier isolators, has been building equipment to protect personnel, animals, product and the environment for more than 50 years.
