Supercharged ID: Cognex DataMan 500 Delivers Unmatched Barcode Reading Performance for Any Manufacturing Application

The high performance, fixed-mount barcode reader, DataMan® 500 from Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX) is now available for factory automation applications. DataMan 500 is the first ID reader to be powered by a proprietary vision chip, called Cognex VSoC(TM). VSoC enables DataMan 500 to have unmatched barcode reading performance and an ease-of-use not found in other image-based or laser systems available today.

"VSoC has given us a performance advantage that other readers available just cannot match," said Carl Gerst, Vice President and Business Unit Manager for Cognex Industrial ID. "DataMan 500 reads barcodes at twice the speed of other readers and is so easy to use, and reads codes so well, that it doesn't have to be positioned optimally to achieve high read rates. One look at this product will change your idea of what barcode readers can do."

DataMan 500 offers the same powerful and proven 1DMax(TM) and 2DMax(TM) code reading technologyfound in other DataMan products for unmatched read rates on even the most difficult 1-D barcodes and 2-D matrix codes. VSoC technology enables DataMan 500 to offer unprecedented speeds on 1-D barcode reading with up to 90 decodes per second and ultrafast image acquisition with auto-exposure, at up to 1,000 frames per second.

DataMan 500, powered by VSoC, sets a new benchmark for ease of use with trigger-free reading and ultrahigh frame rates. These features reduce overall setup cost and deployment time.

To achieve greater depth of field than other image-based barcode readers, the DataMan 500 provides flexible lens options and field interchangeable lighting. Lens options include a choice of C-mount or variable focus liquid lensand lighting options include integrated LED lighting and a high-powered illumination accessory for high-performance reading.

DataMan 500 also supports Cognex Connect(TM) communication capabilities, which includes EtherNet/IP and PROFINET. DataMan 500 can be accessed from any terminal connected to the network, which means that no host PC is required to translate data to a PLC or central network. The protocols also allow for data files and images to be archived directly through FTP support for later review and analysis.

DataMan 500 is available in two models:

o DataMan 500 QL. For high-speed, 1-D applications in food, beverage, consumer products, pharmaceutical, document handling, and logistics applications.

o DataMan 500 X. All the benefits of the DataMan QL reader plus 2DMax to read even the most challenging matrix codes in automotive, aerospace, electronics, and medical device industries.

DataMan 500 is available now. To watch DataMan 500 in action, or to learn more, visit www.cognex.com/500.
