Versatile Scanner Makes Bar Coding E-Z for Industrial Applications

May, 2004 - Renton, Wash.: Microscan, a world leader in the development of fixed-mount bar code reading technology, announces the introduction of the MS-860 compact raster scanner, the latest edition to its product line of industrial bar code readers. The MS-860 combines comprehensive functionality with ease of use to create the most versatile industrialized bar code reader on the market. Using the MS-860, automation engineers no longer need to be a bar code expert to setup a bar code reader for their application.

The MS-860 saves times for automation engineers of all skill levels. By using the EZ button on the side of the unit, the calibration process is initiated to automatically optimize the MS-860's read settings for the specific bar code. Engineers no longer need to go through the time-consuming process of learning how to use the product before installing it on the line. The button can also be used to activate user-definable features such as the sweeping raster and auto-framing capability. Auto-framing enables the raster to automatically adjust to the height and width of the bar codes, optimizing scanner performance for reading stacked 2D codes such as RSS/Composite and PDF417. A green flash provides operators with instant visual confirmation of a good read.

"In the MS-860, we have created a scanner with more software features and flexibility than any of our previous products, but have made it easy to use at the same time," commented Matt Allen, product manager for Microscan Systems, Inc. "By taking the guess work out of product setup, push-button setup makes the MS-860 easy for anyone to install and saves the experienced engineer valuable time."

Microscan representatives are available for comment on the MS-860, bar code scanning technology, and how bar codes can be used to improve the bottom line. Contact Susan Snyder at 425-226-5700 or ssnyder@microscan.com to arrange an interview.
