July 12, 2011 - Using ballistics to separate iron-rich ferrous from mixed metals and waste material in post drum magnet flow, Shred1(TM) Separator delivers 3 distinct fractions. Fraction 1, representing 60-80% of flow, contains less than .2% copper and does not require picking. Fraction 2 represents 20-30% of flow and contains mostly mixed metals, copper, and aluminum with steel housings or cores. Containing 5-7% of flow, Fraction 3 consists of heavy steel objects and light material, such as fluff and rubber.

Shred1(TM) Ballistic Separator from Eriez® Automatically Produces a Premium, Low-Copper Shred

Erie, Pa. - Eriez' new Shred1(TM) Separator uses ballistics to effectively separate iron-rich ferrous from much of the mixed metals and waste material in the post drum magnet flow. This powerful and innovative separator delivers three distinct fractions: a premium low-copper content #1 Shred, a traditional #2 shred and a heavy/light/waste mix.

When a Shred1 Ballistic Separator is combined with Eriez' revolutionary P-Rex® Permanent Rare Earth Magnetic Drum, the system is referred to as the CleanStream(TM) Process. Not only does this new CleanStream Process recover more ferrous and concentrate 75 percent of the post drum magnet flow into a low-copper premium shred, it also eliminates the need for a scavenger magnet, a z-box air system and hand picking the entire flow.

The three fractions and their characteristics produced by the Shred1 Ballistic Separator include the following:

o Fraction one is a high-value, low-copper content ferrous product with a higher value than a #2 grade fraction. According to Eriez®, demand for this premium product is on the rise. Fraction one contains 60-80 percent of flow and contains less than .2 percent copper and unlike traditional polishing drums, this fraction does not require any picking.

o Fraction two represents approximately 20 to 30 percent of the flow and contains mostly mixed metals, copper and aluminum with steel housings or cores. Hand sorting can be accomplished with relatively few pickers because only a fraction of the total shredder discharge is picked.

o Fraction three consists of heavy steel objects and light material, such as fluff, rubber and some wire. This fraction can be picked with fraction #2 or stock piled and re-processed later. Fraction three contains 5-7 percent of the flow.
