Weld Backing Tape offers heat resistance, provides close-fitting surface under weld, and suits applications where use of purge gas is impractical. Metallic adhesive tape has 25 mm wide glass fiber strip which is held up against weld preparation area and maintains weld in same plane as plates or tubes being joined. Two versions, one for weld applications up to 80 A, and heavy-duty version for applications up to 160 A, are available.

Backing tape used in the welding of seams or runs help to prevent weld failures and produce flat, slag-free welds requiring no grinding or backgouging.
