SmartPilot X-Series Continues Raymarine's Course of Top of the Line Autopilots

Next Generation Autopilots Intuitively Adapt to Every Boat and Sea Condition

MERRIMACK, N.H. and FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 30 -- Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show -- Raymarine, Inc., a world leader in marine electronics, today announced the availability of the SmartPilot X-Series Autopilot line. Building upon Raymarine's award- winning SmartPilot technology, the SmartPilot X-Series delivers razor sharp course keeping and superior power efficiency. Designed to perform intuitively for a full range of recreational vessels in all types of sea and weather conditions, the SmartPilot X-Series is available in a variety of configurations. For power boaters, specifically, the easy-to-install SmartPilot X-5 Sport provides a smooth ride whether you are traveling at high speeds or taking a leisure cruise.

"The SmartPilot X-Series is Raymarine's most intelligent line of autopilots to date and, when combined with our ST70 control head, truly gives boaters that extra edge," said Dave Bimschleger, President of Raymarine, Inc. "Boaters now have the flexibility to enjoy their time on the water while the SmartPilot X-Series serves as a trusted crew member."

Each SmartPilot X-Series configuration is comprised of three critical components:

-- Raymarine's control heads are available in a variety of options. The standard ST6002 offers superior viewing angles for both day and night conditions along with simple, push-button controls, while the new ST70 offers additional features, including a digital color display, automatic fishing patterns, compass rose and 3D steering screens.
-- Raymarine's X-Series course computer is equipped with a built-in rate gyro sensor which monitors vessel yaw, eliminating overshooting and wandering by anticipating course changes.
-- Raymarine SmartPilot drive units are available in an array of easy-to-mount options to accommodate various steering system types and vessel displacements.

When combined, these three critical components make the SmartPilot X-Series an essential tool, offering superior efficiency and providing fishermen with integral capabilities for a successful fishing trip. The ST70 control head and SmartPilot's pre-programmed automatic patterns enable boaters to choose from a variety of different modes. Boaters can choose to orbit around their favorite fishing hot spot or set the Cloverleaf mode to make repeated passes over one specific location. If the fish still aren't biting, the Zig Zag mode creates random course changes to make bait more realistic and tempting.

Raymarine's SmartPilot X-Series features a number of additional capabilities:

-- AST technology and SmartPilot X-Series course computers enable SmartPilot to AutoLearn a vessel's steering characteristics.
-- Raymarine SmartSteer(TM) technology ensures smooth and accurate helm control at all speeds.
-- Smart Rudder Sense(TM) technology enables precision steering without the use of a rudder feedback sensor.
-- All SmartPilot X-Series course computers are compatible with Raymarine's super fast SeaTalkng data network for seamless integration with ST70 instruments and NMEA2000 networks.
-- When used with the ST70, SmartPilot X-Series autopilots feature a new one button Dodge mode.
-- Improved integration with Raymarine's award-winning line of multifunction displays allows boaters to engage the autopilot directly from the chartplotter interface.
-- The SmartPilot X-Series course computers offer improved hardware with enhanced short circuit protection, reverse polarity protection and new removable connectors.

With a wide range of sizes and configurations, the SmartPilot X-Series is the perfect match for every type of vessel; from racing yachts to fishing boats.

-- The SmartPilot X-5 Sport for powerboats features the innovative SportDrive helm mounted drive unit. Engineered for simple installation, the SportDrive mounts to an existing fixed or tilted steering helm and doesn't require any modification to hydraulic lines or steering. SmartPilot X-5 Sport systems include the rate gyro equipped X-5 course computer, fluxgate compass and ST6002 autopilot control head.
-- The SmartPilot X-5 Tiller and the high-performance SmartPilot X-5 Tiller GP for tiller steered sailboats offers the convenience of a cockpit mounted tiller drive with a remotely mounted X-5 course computer, fluxgate compass and Raymarine ST6002 control head.
-- The SmartPilot X-5 Wheel Pilot features Raymarine's advanced MKII wheel drive for wheel steered sailboats. The MKII wheel drive offers the convenience of a cockpit mounted autopilot with the performance of a below deck autopilot system. The X-5 Wheel includes the rate gyro equipped X-5 course computer, fluxgate compass and ST6002 control head.
-- The SmartPilot corepacks are available in three levels of performance (X-10, X-30 or X-SOL) to fit a wide range of vessel sizes and drive unit configurations.
-- The X-CAN course computer is a unique course computer designed to interface with today's steer-by-wire propulsion systems, like Volvo IPS drive and steering system.
