Halogen Free Automotive Wire Harness Tape

Environmentally Compliant Tape Facilitates Mandatory Recycling

Windsor, Connecticut - November 26, 2003.... To facilitate wire harness recycling, Scapa Automotive has introduced Autolon® 824, a high performance, halogen free harnessing tape that looks and feels like PVC but emits no toxins during combustion.

A cost-effective solution for wire harness wrapping, clip retention, and color code identification, Autolon 824 is a polyolefin film single coated with a synthetic rubber pressure sensitive adhesive. This halogen free tape matches the performance of PVC tapes, offering good elongation, easy unwind and tear, and excellent conformability for simple application. Autolon 824 also offers a fogging number between 70 and 95, withstands temperatures up to 85°C, and provides good resistance to cold, fluids, and abrasion.

Vehicle recycling is a major concern of automotive OEMs around the world. By 2007, all automobiles sold in Europe will have to be recycled according to legal mandate, with other countries expected to follow suit. Harnesses are traditionally burnt at the end of their life. As PVC tapes release toxic hydrogen chloride on incineration, both government regulators and automotive OEMs are looking for environmentally compatible wire harness tape products.
