Bourns Introduces Automotive-Grade ChipGuard® Varistor Series that Delivers High Reliability, Fast-Response ESD Protection

Press release date: August 26, 2014

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today introduced its ChipGuard® Automotive MLA Series Varistor ESD Clamp Protectors Model specifically developed to protect sensitive automotive electronics from the threat of ESD up to IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4. Bourns’ Model CGA-MLA Series are very fast bidirectional devices that deliver robust overvoltage protection and stable low leakage performance over a wide temperature range.  The latest ChipGuard® devices from Bourns also feature multilayered varistor technology, and their proprietary insulating overcoat provides low and stable leakage current, quick response time (<0.5 ns) and high transient current capability.  These features and benefits make the new varistor clamp protectors particularly well-suited to meet the ESD protection needs of HDMI, CANbus, Ethernet, sensor and touchscreen interfaces as well as GPS and camera links and other circuits sensitive to ESD.

“Like our automotive industry customers, Bourns takes adherence to standards very seriously.  That is why these new devices are AEC-Q200-qualified and also meet the IEC 61000-4-2 standard,” said Kurt Wattelet, Product Line Manager at Bourns, Inc. “High performance and reliability make Bourns’ new varistor series an excellent electrical protection solution for sunroofs and control units as well as engine management systems, just to name a few.”
