Avx Extends Its Compact, Radial Leaded, High Temperature Transguard® Automotive Series with New Varistors Rated for 150°C

New TransGuard® Automotive Series varistors combine circuit protection & EMI/RFI attenuation in a single, durable device designed to provide peak performance in an expanded range of harsh environment & high temperature applications

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has added several new high temperature varistors to its radial leaded TransGuard® Automotive Series. Based on AVX's patented multilayer varistor (MLV) technology, the new components are rated for -55°C to +150°C, qualified to AEC-Q200, and feature a robust construction that enables sustained peak performance in an expanded range of harsh environment and high temperature applications, such as under hood and down hole drilling.  Combining circuit protection and EMI/RFI attenuation functions in a single, high-reliability device available in two compact sizes, the new high temperature TransGuard® Automotive Series varistors provide bidirectional transient voltage protection in the on-state and EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state, effectively reducing component count and saving critical board space.

"AVX's radial leaded, high temperature TransGuard® Automotive Series features the smallest varistors available on the market in addition to the highest temperature ratings in the industry. Extremely compact with regard to height, width, and thickness despite their dual circuit protection and EMI/RFI attenuation functionality, the series provides designer engineers with a highly reliable, single component solution that's more conducive to creating space-saving designs than leaded disc varistors," said Jiri Machanicek, product manager at AVX.  "By extending this trusted series with new components rated to 150°C, we have significantly expanded the number of applications for which these parts are an ideal solution."

Exhibiting excellent current and energy handling capabilities, AVX's new high temperature  TransGuard® Automotive Series varistors are available in four working voltages (14, 18, 26, and 48V), four clamping voltages (60, 67, 100, and 150V), and three energy ratings (0.1, 0.4, and 2.0J), and are also rated for 25kV ESD.  Conformally coated with epoxy resin for enhanced durability in harsh environments, the lead-free and RoHS-compliant series is available in two sizes and with Ni underplate/100% Sn plated wire leads.  Nickel-free leads are available upon request.

The datasheet for the new radial leaded, high-temperature TransGuard® Automotive Series varistors is available at http://avx.com/docs/Catalogs/vr15at.pdf and current lead time for the series is 22 weeks.
