AVX Designs Transguard® Varistor Series to Automotive Industry Standards and Tests to Load Dump, Jump Start Requirements

GREENVILLE, S.C. - AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has expanded its TransGuard® Series to include automotive specific varistors tested to Load Dump and Jump Start requirements. Designated the VCAS Series, the AEC Q200 qualified varistors are designed to automobile industry standards and feature excellent energy/current handling capability.

The VCAS Series varistors provide bi-directional protection and are print controlled to include users in the product modification process. Available in voltage ratings ranging from 16Vdc to 85Vdc with case sizes ranging from 0402 to 1210, the VCAS Series is ideal for CAN based module, sensor, module load dump protection and motor/inductive load transient suppression applications in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and commercial vehicles.

AVX plans to expand the VCAS Series to include lower voltage ratings and case sizes 1812 and 2220. Typical prices range from $0.0100 to $0.3500 depending on volume with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks.
