Improved Function, Service, and Reliability with the Creform Standard BST AGV

Creform Corporation, (Greer, SC), has made several improvements to its Standard BST AGV Tugger. Creform BST AGV drive units follow a magnetic tape guidepath and function as automated tuggers, eliminating the need for manned delivery vehicles. The units drive under a stationary cart equipped with a BST hitch, extend a tow pin into the hitch and deliver the cart to a designated work area. It then retracts the tow pin and moves out to pick up another cart. One BST AGV drive unit can service a fleet of carts.

Improvements in the area of functionality include: An easily accessible lever for manual engage/disengage of the drive wheel; a drive chain cover for added safety; a battery tray for faster battery changeouts; new low-rolling resistance casters; a new obstacle sensor with 180° sensing angle; and an up-front accessible sound volume control.

Serviceability has also been improved with the addition of threaded bolt holes for lifting rings; easier access to connectors for faster parts exchange when required; and less internal wiring to simplify maintenance.

Some additions have been made to improve reliability. These include: A stronger drive motor system; a stronger drive chain; a dust proof multi monitor; anti-scratch side guard rails to help maintain a better appearance; and a new front guard to protect the obstacle sensor.

The addition of all these new features to the Standard BST has not affected compatibility with the original Creform BST AGVs as exterior dimensions were preserved. The BST series of AGV Tuggers are best suited for conveying carts built using the Creform System. However, other existing carts that have the proper clearance can be conveyed using BST drives provided the BST hitch can be installed on these carts.

Creform also offers several models of bolt-on AGV drives used for creating custom AGV carts using the Creform System or plastic coated steel pipes, metal or plastic joints and accessories. Creform is also used to design and build workstations, flow racks, carts and a wide variety of material handling structures.
