Kontron Medical Panel PC Medi Client IIA: Intel Atom Processor Based Touch Panel PC for Medical Equipment OEMs

High performance and low power dissipation

Eching, Germany - At the Medica 2010 trade show in Dusseldorf, Germany, Kontron introduced the fanless Kontron Medi Client IIA, an extremely compact and long-term available Medical Panel PC with 10.4 inch or 15 inch touch screen. It is specifically designed as a human machine interface (HMI) for medial appliances or as an all-in-one workstation equipped with medical device interfaces. The cost efficient 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor N270, enables the Medical Panel PC to achieve significantly higher performance and lower power consumption compared to the performance of previous processor versions. OEMs and system integrators will benefit from improved graphics performance and lower heat dissipation. Furthermore, with no rotating storage media, the fanless Kontron Medi Client IIA operates silently; ideal for surroundings close to patients.

The Kontron Medical Panel PC Medi Client IIA combines a robust, cost-efficient housing with the high design quality of rugged, long-term available and reliable embedded hardware technology. The extremely durable yet lightweight plastic housing has IP65 protection on the front and is resistant to disinfectants and can be manufactured in customer-specific corporate designs. Thanks to the high quality hardware components, the EN60601-1 compliant Medical Panel PC is designed for continuous operation and has an MTBF of more than 40,000 hours. It is also insensitive to shock and vibration, and therefore suitable for mobile medical equipment. For medical equipment OEMs, the five year minimum long-term availability in identical configuration, support the product life cycles of connected medical devices such as MRT, CRT or 3d- ultrasound scanners and facilitates the servicing, maintenance, or replacement.

Despite its compact size, the Kontron MediClient offers a comprehensive range of interfaces with 2 x Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000), 2 x USB 2.0 and 1 x RS232 (optional RS422/RS485). The VESA mounting ensures the fanless Kontron MediClient is easy to integrate into numerous cost-sensitive, medical applications for operation and emergency rooms, patient terminals and other risk-infection areas with. Users benefit from an intuitive touch interface with good graphics in a space-saving, robust and hygienic design.

With the integration of the new 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, the cost-optimized Kontron MediClient IIA offers lower heat dissipation and can be configured with up to 2 GB of RAM - twice as much memory as its predecessor. For data storage, the Medical Panel PC offers a socket for rugged compact flash media and as an option a 2.5" hard drive can be integrated. The easy-to-read and bright (230 cd / m²) touch screen display in 10.4" (800 x 600) or 15" (1024x768) can even be operated with gloves and stylus pens and is resistant to disinfectants and cleaning agents. The robust plastic housing (ABS UL94V0) is scratch- and corrosion-resistant as well as chemical-resistant, providing high durability for easy cleaning and disinfecting.

The CE-certified Kontron Medical Panel PC Medi Client IIA is available in EMEA and the Americas now. It supports Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE and Embedded Linux as well as numerous communication protocols such as http, XML and RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).
