TAG Company Launches Breakthrough Range of 58 kHz EAS Labels

New Anti-Shoplifting Labels Challenge To Tyco's Sensormatic

HARMONDSWORTH, United Kingdom and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., USA, Sept. 11 / -- TAG Company, the world's fastest growing retail security company, announced today the launch of Series 58(TM), a new line of anti- shoplifting labels operating at 58 kHz, commonly known as acousto-magnetic (AM). AM is the Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) technology used by major retailers worldwide. With Series 58, TAG aims to secure a significant share of the 10 billion unit annual market for EAS labels.

Acousto-magnetic (58 kHz) has been the operating standard within prime retail markets including general merchandise, department store, entertainment media, and DIY segments in the US, Europe, Latin America, and Asia, and is used by Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Home Depot, Tesco, the AS Watson group, HMV, Virgin Megastores and other category leaders.

TAG's Series 58 is fully compatible with all 58 kHz acousto-magnetic EAS systems and deactivators, including Tyco's Sensormatic. TAG Company offers two formats of Series 58: a 2,000 label roll for manual application and a 6,000 label roll for high speed automated application for tagging of consumer products at the point of manufacturing (Source Tagging) or for conversion by VAR's (value added resellers). Series 58, a joint development effort between Phenix Label Co. and TAG Company, is manufactured by Phenix in Olathe, Kansas. Both TAG and Phenix have filed for patents on the label's design and manufacturing processes.

"Until Series 58, retailers and source tagging manufacturers had no alternative for supply for their 58 kHz labels," states Mark Krom, CEO of TAG Company. "This is a significant industry event and will energize the EAS marketplace. As the original patents for 58 kHz AM technology have expired over the years, a handful of companies have developed alternative AM hardware devices and re-usable tags. However, there has been no alternative for disposable 58 kHz labels, until now."

Kathie Bulson, TAG Company's Vice President of Business development, adds, "We've worked hard to ensure that the performance and quality of the labels meet critical specifications and we have been successful in meeting that criteria. We now have a label that delivers the performance and quality retailers demand from their EAS label supply. We believe source taggers will be delighted with our high specification automated large roll product. The 6,000 label format will deliver improved levels of productivity at high speeds."

TAG Company will sell the Series 58 label directly to retailers and manufacturers and through a dealer network in other markets.

"The availability of Series 58 will have a positive effect in the marketplace," comments Steve Mankin of Summit Group, a consulting firm specializing in retail security. "The global markets will now have access to an alternate supply of high quality and competitively priced labels. Our firm's evaluation of the Series 58 demonstrated performance as good or superior to the labels from the competition."
