ASM Sensors Introduces Heavy Duty Angular Position Sensor with Rugged Housing for Extremely Harsh Environments

Elmhurst, IL (June 17, 2009) - Very heavy duty applications require components which are known for their robustness and reliability. For exactly these types of projects, ASM Sensors, Inc. has introduced a new line of heavy duty, magnetic angular position sensors, PRAS5 series, with a measurement range of 0-360° and IP69K enclosure rating.

Whenever an angular encoder needs to be mounted externally on applications such as mobile construction equipment, wind mills and off-shore use, the sensor is expected to be exposed to severe weather conditions, temperature fluctuations and excessive debris. The latest ASM angle sensor, PRAS5 series, is available with either a rugged aluminum or stainless steel housing that permits the sensor to perform continuously under these demanding environmental conditions. The sensor's housing is dependably and securely installed with large M8 mounting bolts. The PRAS5 also offers an extended operating temperature range of -40° to +105°/120°C (standard -40° to +85°) which reinforces the application of this sensor in unforgiving locations.

The PRAS5 series is based upon a magnetic position sensing technology and is available with either a 10 mm shaft or non-contact design that utilizes an external position magnet to match the application requirements. This single turn encoder has a measurement range of 360° that can be ordered with smaller ranges in 15° increments.

Available outputs for the PRAS5 include 4-20 mA, 0.5-10 V, CANopen and SAE J1939. The sturdy design has been tested for 100 g/11ms shocks and 20 g vibration.
