AMETEK Introduces New Range of Alpha Spectrometers

OAK RIDGE, TN- The ORTEC® Products Group of AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technology (AMT) has introduced the Alpha Suite family of all-in-one alpha spectrometers for use in mobile environmental laboratories and counting room applications.

The Alpha Suite is the first alpha spectrometer to employ integrated digital signal processing multichannel analyzers, achieving a very high level of stability that is a major advantage for long counting times with low-level samples.

"We conceived of the Alpha Suite following years of experience with our OCTETE Alpha systems in counting rooms around the world and decided to utilize a new modular approach that incorporates the latest digital signal processing techniques," notes Tim Twomey, ORTEC Product Manager. "We believe the resulting product family represents a new milestone in the development of digital, integrated nuclear spectroscopy, offering unmatched value and performance."

The Alpha Suite product family includes the NIM-based, single-channel Alpha Aria; the innovative, two-channel, bench-top Alpha Duo, and the flexible Alpha Ensemble, a single instrument that is expandable from two to eight channels.

Each instrument in the Alpha Suite family requires only a power source, vacuum pump and a USB connection to a PC. Each has one or more spectroscopy channels consisting of a vacuum chamber, digital signal processing electronics and multichannel analyzer function. ORTEC ULTRA series ion-implanted silicon detectors are recommended.

ORTEC Products Group of AMETEK AMT, which celebrates 50 years of service in 2010, is a leader in the design and manufacture of highly sensitive radiation detectors that are used by government and industrial laboratories, nuclear facilities and medical research and in nuclear safeguards.

ORTEC is one of only two manufacturers worldwide with the ability to produce high-purity germanium and high-resolution radiation detectors from it and is a leader in systems, digital signal processing electronics and software associated with such applications.
