Wheelabrator Automated Airblast Systems Provide Peening Solutions for the Mining Industry


Burlington, ON - (May 26, 2009) - WheelabratorŽ automated airblast systems have been designed specifically for peening applications within the mining industry. Using precision, multiple-axis nozzle manipulation and part movement, Wheelabrator systems allow for flexibility and repeatability to peen internal passages (ID) and outer passages (OD) of rock drill bits. Wheelabrator controls and operator interfaces allow the system operator to create techniques and program process parameters with great ease. This results in reduced operator changeover times as a result of the versatile Wheelabrator peening systems.

The blast cabinet is constructed of steel for reduced maintenance and resistance to wear. A typical design uses a Rotary table that is door mounted allowing for easy part loading and unloading. The table design permits the drill bit to be in a 'shank down position' while peening the face and button hole. The systems are adaptable for addressing changing customer process needs (i.e. shot, cut wire, etc.). Key function features also include a user-friendly touchscreen interface, closed-loop feedback and process controls, and detailed diagnostics to assist in troubleshooting.
