March 12, 2003 - INHANCE™ performance additives consist of surface-modified particles based on ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW PE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and titanium carbide polymer alloys, and surface-modified fibers based on aramid and HDPE. Process creates polar functional groups on surfaces of products, enabling users to combine normally incompatible materials to form unique composite compounds with desirable properties.

Fluoro-Seal Introduces Inhance™ Product Line: Performance Additives for Molded Goods, Coatings, and Adhesives

Houston, TX - Fluoro-Seal, Ltd. has begun selling a family of surface-modified polymer particles and fibers that customers use to manufacture molded goods, paints, coatings, and adhesives with superior performance. The products are being manufactured and sold through a new division within the company, and are sold under the INHANCE™ trade name.

The Product line currently consists of surface-modified particles based on ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW PE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and titanium carbide polymer alloys, and surface modified fibers based on aramid and HDPE. A proprietary process is used to create polar functional groups on the surfaces of the products. This enables the particles and fibers to be dispersed in various systems and it results in tenacious adhesion of the particles and fibers in the polymer systems.

INHANCE™ products are used in a broad spectrum of types of applications. For example, they are used to make polyurethane, rubber, and thermoplastic molded goods with significantly greater abrasion resistance. They are used in various paints and coatings because they give greater adhesion to substrates, greater abrasion and mar resistance and reduce the coefficient of friction. They are also used in adhesives to give greater strength and greater adhesion to substrates.

Dr. Bernard D. Bauman, vice president of Fluoro-Seal, explained that "the product line represents a new dimension in material engineering. It is a way to combine materials that are normally incompatible to form unique composite compounds with desirable properties. It is an innovative way to custom tailor physical properties for specific applications."

Fluoro-Seal is the world leader in surface-modification of plastics with reactive gas. Founded 20 years ago, the company fluorinates over 100 million plastic containers annually at its 11 plant locations across the U.S. The company also has licensees in seven foreign countries around the world.
