April 17, 2003 - PCI-2 Two Channel Acoustic Emission card with sensor has 2-channels of simultaneous Acoustic Emission waveforms and features digital signal processing on PCI card. Low noise and low threshold performance are achieved with use of 18-bit A/D conversion scheme, with up to 40 Msample/sec acquisition and real time J-sample averaging. System also has two parametric channels for other transducers, such as pressure, temperature, load, and more.

PAC Introduces New Advanced 18-bit, 2-Channel AE System

Princeton Junction, NJ - March 2003 - Physical Acoustics Corporation (PAC) is pleased to introduce the PCI-2. Pioneering a new 18-bit architecture, the PCI-2 is a low cost, 2-channels of simultaneous Acoustic Emission (AE) waveforms and features digital signal processing (DSP) on a PCI card. Superior low noise and low threshold performance have been achieved with this new system design, through the use of an innovative PAC 18-bit A/D conversion scheme, with up to 40 Msample/second acquisition and real time J - sample averaging. Via the system's pipelined, real-time architecture, this performance is attained without sacrificing AE throughput speed.

With these features and its low cost, the PCI-2 is ideal for laboratories, Universities/Institutes and industrial turnkey systems, and any application where low noise and channel count are requirements, and where the use of an available PC is desired. In addition to two AE channels, the system also has two parametric channels for other transducers, such as pressure, temperature, load, and more.

AE is a powerful method for examining the behavior of materials deforming under stress. Materials "talk" and AE systems "listen" to the sounds of cracks growing, fibers breaking and many other modes of active damage in the stressed material. Thus, AE offers unique capabilities for materials research and development in the laboratory.
