New Rugged BAT Solutions in WLAN Portfolio

WLAN Access Point and WLAN Access Client for Demanding Applications

With its BAT54-F Single and BAT54-F Client, Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH (Germany) has introduced two new products completing the company's BAT54-F portfolio. Depending on the application, the new devices offer a cost-effective alternative to the established BAT54-F range. Hirschmann BAT products offer proven ruggedness and are characterized by providing very steady and broadband wireless LAN communication.

The BAT54-F Single is a particularly rugged wireless LAN access point for demanding industrial field applications. Developed for the same hard field use, the BAT54-F Client also features specialized security functions for WLAN operation.

In contrast to the well-know BAT54-F access point, the BAT54-F Single has only one WLAN port, providing a properly tailored solution for users who don't need a second WLAN port and additional 24V voltage supply. The device is certified for applications in the transportation and railway industries. This and its two PoE/LAN ports make the BAT54-F Single an ideal choice in installations that require high vibration resistance and stability. The second LAN port can be used e.g. for connecting video cameras to the WLAN.

The BAT54-F Client is designed for use on mobile vehicles or machines. Among its outstanding properties, it provides EAP encryption and certifications according to IEEE standard 802.1. With an integrated firewall, fast roaming support and an IP router, the extremely durable and rugged BAT54-F Client exceeds the service offer of other competitors in this class.

Both devices represent an ideal completion of the BAT54-F family from Hirschmann. With M12 connectors, high protection class (IP65/67), an extended temperature range and corrosion resistant aluminum housings they have a perfect fit in demanding industrial environments.

Both BAT54-F Single and BAT54-F Client will be commercially available as of May 2009 in Europe and midyear in the U.S.
