Offered as peripheral module, HSSI-HES lends flexibility to SPiiPlus and MC4U motion controller families by providing user with 2 solutions for absolute position feedback. It supports EnDat v2.2 and Tamagawa Smart-Abs absolute encoders, and each module is capable of handling one or two feedback devices of either kind. Features include High Speed Serial Interface (HSSI) controller connection, encoder error protection, and 20 KHz sampling rate synchronized with servo cycle.

ACS Motion Control Develops Absolute Encoder Interface for SPiiPlus and MC4U Family of Controllers

PLYMOUTH, MN (January 7, 2009) - ACS Motion Control, an international manufacturer of advanced multi-axis motion controllers, machine controllers and integrated control modules, has developed a new peripheral module for their SPiiPlus and MC4U family of high performance motion controllers. Designated HSSI-HES, the device gives ACS motion controllers even greater flexibility by offering the user two solutions for absolute position feedback.
The HSSI-HES supports EnDat v2.2 and Tamagawa Smart-Abs absolute encoders. Each module is capable of handling one or two feedback devices of either kind. Connection from the HSSI-HES to the controller is done via the SPiiPlus' High Speed Serial Interface (HSSI) using industry standard Cat5 cabling allowing the device to be remotely mounted up to 20 meters from the controller. After the initial configuration the remote nature of the device is transparent to the user. The HSSI-HES features encoder error protection to ensure true position feedback, as well as a 20 KHz sampling rate synchronized with the servo cycle. In addition the HSSI-HES supports index detection and latching of encoder position.
