May 8, 2009 - With 4th prism based coaxial light source, iSpector HML provides accurate inspection of solder joints with tall components nearby, and detection of printing failures. Light source combines On-Axis Lighting and RGB layered LEDs, accommodating post-print, pre-reflow, and post-reflow inspection. Employing high-speed, 2 megapixel camera with pixel size in excess of 4 µm, iSpector HML enables Meniscus Profiling, eliminating problems caused by PCB warpage and resultant height variations.

Marantz will Launch Latest High Performance AOI at SMT Nuremberg

Marantz Business Electronics has announced the debut of its iSpector HML at SMT Nuremberg, May 5-7. The new AOI system introduces a powerful combination of lighting, optics and camera technology to deliver fast, accurate solder joint inspection performance covering a wide variety of application circumstances.

The iSpector series comprises different models, ranging from the cost effective FW version with single LED for Post Print and Pre-reflow, The ML version with 3 angle LED's for Post Reflow solder inspection and Marantz now extends the range with the HML. This configuration adds a 4th prism based coaxial light source enabling the accurate inspection of solder joints with tall components nearby and powerful detection of printing failures. The iSpector series includes models for extra large PCBs up to 650x550mm.

Post-print, pre-reflow and post-reflow inspection are each optimally accommodated by a new 4 angle light source that uniquely combines On Axis Lighting and RGB layered LEDs (RGB/DOAL). The iSpector HML employs a high speed, high quality 2 Mp camera with industry leading large CCD with a pixel size in excess of 4um for superior contrast and low signal to noise ratio. Custom built, high resolution, low distortion telecentric optics are specially designed to complement the quality of the image sensor. Ball screw DC servo motor drives deliver smooth, vibration free motion and finely tuned acceleration and deceleration curves further increase the system's stability which is critical to the speed and accuracy of image acquisition.

iSpector's 3 and 4 angle RGB lighting systems enables 3 dimensional meniscus profiling, which is significantly more accurate and detailed than the conventional black and white binarisation of solder joints. iSpector's Meniscus Profiling also eliminates the problems caused by PCB warpage and resultant height variations that are faced by traditional angular camera systems. At the same time, the On Axis Lighting is capable of inspecting solder joints even with tall components nearby while also providing accurate wet print defect analysis.

Commenting on the latest release, Marantz Business Electronics General Manager, Henk Biemans explains: "Having pioneered 24-bit defect detection, our range of AOI technologies now takes another huge leap forward in its ability to deliver both premium performance and amazing value for today's high mix manufacturers. SMT Nuremberg will provide an ideal venue in which to introduce the new iSpector HML to the European marketplace along with our new distribution partner SmartRep - an experienced specialist who understands the evolving needs of our customers and who can deliver in-depth process support and technical expertise."

About Marantz Business Electronics

Well known for high quality Audio/Video products, Marantz developed its first AOI system in 1994. Developed to inspect PCB assemblies for correct component placement and soldering, the AOI system was designed for use in Marantz's own factories. Proving to be a highly successful, cost-effective alternative to traditional human inspection, Marantz developed its first generation commercial system in 1996. With a steadily growing installed base, Marantz Business Electronics has now sold over 4000 units worldwide.
