SII Launches New Automotive AEC-Q100 Qualified Voltage Detectors

- Certified 125 Degree C Operation, Built-in Delay Circuit, Ultra-low Current Consumption -

TOKYO -- Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) announced on December 18 availability of the "S-19100" series voltage detectors rated for operation up to 125 degrees C. The new voltage detectors are certified to meet or exceed requirements of the AEC-Q100 automotive qualification standard.

The "S-19100" Series was specifically designed for use in cars and other in-vehicle equipment. Typical applications include an engine ECU (Electronic Control unit), ABS (Antilock Braking System) and related EV (Electric Vehicle) equipment, and HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) electronics.

Driven by increasing consumer concern about safety, reliability and the environment, modern hybrid and electric vehicles are incorporating more sophisticated high-durability electronics. High reliability and quality are required to successfully operate and ensure passenger safety in demanding automotive conditions including high temperature, humidity, vibration, and shock.

Since power voltage levels in automobiles can vary during operation, especially during startup, to ensure reliable operation, on-board electronic systems utilize voltage detectors to monitor power levels and provide a dependable reset signal. Voltage detectors help protect the vehicle and electronics from malfunctions during power activation.

In addition to the 125 degree C components, the "S-19100" Series also includes 105 degree C-rated voltage detectors for less demanding and more price sensitive applications including navigation systems, car audio and an ITS (Intelligent Transport System). Device current consumption is 270 nA (typ), the industry's lowest current consumption level for in-vehicle voltage detectors. "S-19100" voltage detectors are available in SOT-23-5 (2.9 x 2.8 x 1.3 mm) and SC-82AB (2.0 x 2.1 x 1.1 mm) packages.

SII has a well-established track record providing dependable and reliable serial EEPROMs to automotive manufacturers, and has captured the number one market share for that category in Japan. SII also supplies a wide range of customers in the consumer market with voltage detectors certified for 85 degree C operation.
