Original Press Release:

40 W and 65 W Convection Cooled AC-DC Power Supplies Comply with 3rd Edition Medical Safety Standard

Hoofddorp, Netherlands: Murata announces today the MVAD040 and MVAD065 open frame, convection cooled AC-DC power supplies.

Packaged in the industry standard 2 x 4 inch format with a low profile, 1U compatible 1.3 inch height (50.8 x 101.6 x 33.02 mm), the low power MVAD series is suitable for use in a wide range of high volume applications including medical and healthcare appliances, data storage and networking, and industrial factory automation systems.

“These 40W and 65W open frame power supplies expand Murata's open frame product line, offering output power levels ranging from 40W up to 400W. The introduction of these products further positions Murata Power Solutions as an industry leader in convection cooled power,” said David German, Director of Product Marketing.

Up to 90% efficient, the MVAD040 and MVAD065 do not require additional heatsinking or forced air cooling to operate at full output power. No load power consumption is less than 0.3 W, which meets ErP and Energy Star requirements. Accepting the universal input voltage range from 90 to 264 VAC, each model is available with a + 12, + 24, or +48 VDC output. Operating temperature startup is as low as – 20 degrees C. MVAD065 features remote sense, which compensates for lead losses up to 0.4 VDC at the load point.

The supplies comply with the stringent demands of the internationally recognized 3rd edition medical safety standard IEC/EN 60601-1: 2006. They also meet the IEC/EN60950-1 safety standard for IT equipment. The MVAD series has an MTBF of one million hours, this being at least 2x the MTBF of similar competing devices available on the market today.
