High-speed A/D Converters Feature More Channels, Lower Power and Smaller Package Size

Analog Devices Introduces Highly Integrated Octal and Quad ADCs for Demanding Medical Imaging and Communications Applications

NORWOOD, Mass. -- Analog Devices Inc.(ADI), a global leader in high-performance signal processing technology, announced today the addition of four high-speed A/D data converters to its market-leading data converter product portfolio. The two octal- and two quad-channel converters are designed for medical imaging and communications applications where the combination of high channel density, low power and small size provide systems engineers with greater design flexibility and lower per-channel cost for data conversion.

The AD9257 14-bit and AD9637 12-bit octal A/D converters each integrate eight A/D converters into one package and feature 40 percent lower power per channel than other discrete octal converters. Analog Devices today also introduced the AD9253 14-bit and AD9633 12-bit quad A/D converters in 48-lead chip-scale packages that are more than 10 percent smaller than competing devices.

Data Conversion for Medical Imaging

All of the new converters support the higher channel densities of MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) systems, medical ultrasound and other high-end imaging applications, such as industrial visual inspection systems and non-destructive ultrasound. The AD9253 14-bit and AD9633 12-bit quad A/D converters are offered in a non-magnetic package and can be used safely within the magnetic field of an MRI system. This allows the converters to be placed closer to the signal of interest, which can increase the quality of image resolution and image throughput while reducing the overall component count.

Complementary components for these high-speed converters include the AD8334 quad, ultralow noise VGA (variable gain amplifier) for ultrasound applications.

Data Conversion for Communications

The new octal and quad A/D converters are also suited to MIMO-based (multiple-input, multiple-output) radios, 3G infrastructure equipment and other wireless communications applications.

The ADL5202 variable gain wide bandwidth amplifier, AD8376 ultralow distortion IF dual VGA and ADA4937 ultralow distortion differential ADC driver work well with these high-speed converters in communications applications.
