New Balluff Self-Contained Thru-Beam Fork Sensors "Stick It" to Setup Hassles

One-piece thru-beam sensors more accurate, easier to install than fiber optics for part, height and edge detection

FLORENCE, KY (March 20, 2002) - Stick a fork in fiber optic setup hassles...They're done. Balluff’s new self-contained "plug-and-play" BGL thru-beam fork sensors eliminate mounting headaches encountered with fiber optic sensors used for part detection on machines and conveyors.

One-piece BGL sensors feature pre-aligned optics integrated into a metal fork- style body, allowing installation without special brackets or beam alignment procedures. Affordable and accurate, BGL fork sensors provide resolution to 0.3mm, repeatability to 0.02mm, hysteresis to <0.1mm, and a list price starting at only $227.

BGL laser fork sensors are ideal for part location, height verification and edge detection in packaging, material handling, automotive, paper, food and other industries. BGL sensors are available in a number sensing gap "slot" sizes from 5 to 120mm to best match process requirements. Wide-gap models accommodate bulky items such as carpet and heavy textiles without risk of sensor contact.

Easy-to-install BGL sensors are easy to set up, providing 640nm visible red emission, 4-pin nano-style connector with function LED, and 270 deg potentiometer sensitivity adjustment.

Operating on 10-30Vdc, the sensors are protected against short circuits/reverse polarity and are user-selectable between normally open or normally closed operation. An anodized aluminum housing resists damage from corrosive media and is sealed to IP65.

Balluff Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Balluff GmbH & Co., Neuhausen, Germany, is a leading manufacturer of a wide variety of inductive, optical, capacitive and magnetic sensors as well as linear position transducers and ID systems. Balluff products are used to control, regulate, automate, position and monitor manufacturing and packaging sequences for a number of industries, including metalworking, automotive, plastics, aerospace, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, electrical and electronics.
