Image Sensor provides cool pictures.

April 19, 2002 - RA1133J full-frame cooled CCD image sensor is suitable for spectroscopic, biomedical, and related scientific imaging applications. It can be integrated into cameras for continuous high-resolution imaging in low light situations. Two stage thermoelectric cooler enables device to be run 40 deg C below ambient temperature, or –15 deg C compared to room temperature. Low noise and dark current make sensor suitable for low light and high resolution applications.

PerkinElmer Optoelectronics Announces the RA1133J—A State-of-the-Art Full-Frame Cooled CCD Image Sensor That Extends The Range of High Resolution Applications Through On-Board Cooling Functionality

PerkinElmer Optoelectronics today introduced the RA1133J, a full-frame TE cooled CCD image sensor with reset capabilities designed for spectroscopic, biomedical, and related scientific imaging applications. Used by OEM's of scientific and biomedical equipment, the RA1133J is integrated into cameras for continuous high-resolution imaging in low light situations.

The RA1133J is designed with an integrated two stage thermoelectric cooler. This enables the device to be run 40°C below ambient temperature, -15°C when compared to room temperature. The combination of very low noise and low dark current make the RA1133J ideal for low light and high resolution applications where high dynamic range is essential.

With on-board cooling of the CCD, the RA1133J allows instrumentation to be run in situations with very low light and long exposure times, without the build-up of noise and dark current typically seen in CCDs. The product is available as of March 2002.
