Preamplifier uses avalanche photodiodes.

April 19, 2002 - C30659-Series includes low noise Gasfet front end, avalanche photodiodes, and hybrid preamplifier in single modified 12-lead TO-8 package. Avalanche photodiodes can be either silicon or indium gallium arsenide and emitter follower is used as output buffer stage. It has strong response between 400 and 1700 nanometers. To obtain wideband characteristics, output of preamp should be ac coupled to 50-Ohm termination.

PerkinElmer Optoelectronics Adds Avalanche Photodiode Preamplifier Modules to Its C30659-Series

PerkinElmer Optoelectronics today announced it has added Avalanche Photodiode Preamplifier Modules to its sensor product line. The company will use Avalanche Photodiodes, along with a hybrid preamplifier supplied in a single modified 12-lead TO-8 package, in its C30659-Series.

With strong response between 400 and 1700 nanometers, Avalanche Photodiodes can be either Silicon or Indium Gallium Arsenide. The preamplifier section uses a very low noise Gasfet front end. This is designed to operate at a higher transimpedance than the regular C30950 series. The output of the C30659 is negative, going with light. An emitter follower is used as an output buffer stage. To obtain the wideband characteristics, the output of these devices should be AC coupled to a 50-Ohm termination.

Some key features of these modules are system bandwidth (3-dB Point) of DC to 50 MHz, 200 MHz, very low Noise Equivalent Power (NEP) and very fast overload recovery. The C30659 series are suitable in applications such as Range Finding, Confocal Microscopy, and LIDAR.
