Vantico Introduces Araldite(R) Toughened Epoxy Adhesive and Two Flexible Polyurethanes
LOS ANGELES, March 18, 2002 - To extend the performance capabilities of its Araldite 2000 adhesives product family, Vantico Inc. today introduced a fast-curing, toughened epoxy along with a clear, flexible polyurethane and a 10-minute cure polyurethane that is ideal for bonding sheet molding compounds (SMC). All three products are formulated to produce durable joints on hard-to-bond thermoplastic, metal and glass substrates, among others.
The engineering adhesives are designated Araldite 2010 epoxy, Araldite 2026 polyurethane and Araldite 2027 polyurethane. Features of the new products include:
Araldite 2010 is a resilient epoxy with outstanding lap shear strength and peel strength at temperatures from –40 deg F (-40 deg C) to 104 deg F (40 deg C) that attains handling strength in 30 minutes. The product can withstand exposure to chemicals, water and gasoline as well as weather extremes. It is suitable for bonding metals, ceramics, glass, rubber and rigid plastics.
Araldite 2026 polyurethane is a water clear, flexible adhesive for bonding most thermoplastics, metals and glass and combinations of these substrates. It is also ideal for use on fiberglass-reinforced epoxy composites. The polyurethane attains handling strength after one hour at 77 deg F (25 deg C). Once cured, it has an elongation of 50% at room temperature. The temperature- and UV light-resistant system maintains bond strength even after 90 days at 158 deg F (70 deg C).
Araldite 2027 polyurethane is specially designed for primerless bonding of SMC. It also produces tough joints on most thermoplastics, metals and thermoset plastics. The adhesive maintains bond strength in the presence of oils, gas and water and has good weathering characteristics. Additional features of the polyurethane are its excellent gap-filling properties and 10-minute work life.
Vantico's Araldite 2010, 2026 and 2027 adhesives are packaged in 50- and 200-mi cartridges as well as in larger containers for bulk handling. The cartridges provide for precise mixing and controlled dispensing that minimizes waste and reduces application time.
