AVX Expands Military Approved Switch Mode Power Supply Capacitor Product Offering

AVX is the first and only supplier to offer full qualification of all values, voltages and case sizes to both B and T levels of the MIL PRF 49470 specification...

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (October 15, 2009) - AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has expanded its offering of MIL QPL products with switch mode power supply capacitors that meet MIL PRF 49470 specifications. These stacked capacitors are designed to have ultra low equivalent series resistance (ESR) and equivalent series inductance (ESL), which make them ideal to handle large currents and transient voltages of today's power supplies while maintaining a small footprint. AVX's MIL QPL products are uniquely suited for the filtering capacitor on the input and output of power supplies, or as a snubber capacitor.

AVX has an established twenty-year history of supplying switch mode power supply (SMPS) stacked capacitors to the space, avionics and military industries. In addition to expanding its product offering, AVX has extended its test capabilities to include lighting tests (DO-160), signal characterization, RF analysis, and voltage conditioning to meet the demands of customers.

"AVX is dedicated to supplying its customers with the most reliable and durable
parts for military and avionic applications, as we are the first and only supplier to offer full qualification of all values, voltages and case sizes to both B and T levels of the MIL PRF 49470 specification," said Scott Harris, AVX marketing manager. "By once again expanding our MIL QPL high reliability product offering, AVX has displayed its commitment to these markets."

AVX stacked capacitors now meet M level and T level certifications for all values, case sizes and voltage ranges over the -55°C to +125°C temperature range. AVX's SMX Series can operate up to 200ºC. Lead-times vary based on the size of product, although stock is available through AVX distribution partners.
