Process Controller handles up to 10 heaters/cooling devices.

October 21, 2009 - Capable of driving contactors for up to 10 heaters or cooling devices to maintain process at setpoint, Series DS Digital Staging Controller allows user to configure quantity of outputs dedicated to heating and cooling, on site. Stager can be set to use outputs in circular rotation or in up-then-down sequence, or to accept input from thermistor and perform temperature control using onboard processor. Relay, TRIAC, or digital outputs are offered with digital input for emergency shutdown.

New Series DS Digital Staging Controller Capable of Driving Contactors for up to Ten Heaters or Cooling Devices

Athena Controls, Inc., an industry leading manufacturer of temperature/process controllers, sensors, and related accessories has announced availability of their new Series DS Digital Staging Controller.

The Series DS Stager is capable of driving contactors for up to ten heaters or cooling devices to maintain a process at setpoint. A single stager can control a mix of heating and cooling outputs, and the quantity of outputs dedicated to heating and cooling can be easily configured on site by the user.

Ideal for heater wear balancing, the stager can be set to use outputs in a circular rotation or in an up-then-down sequence. It can also be set to accept input from a thermistor, such as an Athena Controls 65006, and perform temperature control under the direction of the onboard processor. The stager is also able to compensate for the effects of outdoor temperature when an additional outdoor thermistor is used.

Alternatively, the Series DS can operate in follow mode under the direction of an external controller, such as an Athena Controls 16C, that provides a 0 to 20 or 4 to 20 mA current signal representing the output percentage needed. Relay, TRIAC, or digital outputs are available, and a digital input for emergency shutdown is standard. If this digital input is not used as an emergency shutdown switch, it can be used to switch to an alternate setpoint configured with a Modbus® host.
