Hearing Protection Device is designed for shooters.

October 7, 2009 - ZEM(TM) (Zwislocki Ear Muffler) hearing protection device channels it into small chambers located above earpieces where it is refracted and cancelled, allowing users to carry on conversations, hear range instructions, or warning sounds. Device weighs less than 2 oz. It achieves mean attenuation of 32.8 dB in 125-500 Hz frequency range, 33 dB between 500-2,000 Hz frequency, and 37.8 dB above 2,000 Hz.

SensGard Introduces New Concept in Hearing Protection for Shooters

o Lightweight, low-cost passive device diverts rather than blocks hazardous noise, allows conversation

o "Amazing value for money!" according to ShootForum.com's Mammoth Hearing Protection Test 2009

Rochester, NY - A totally new type of hearing protection device from SensGard Sensory Protection Solutions LLC is now available for shooters. Based on technology developed at the Bioacoustics Laboratory of Syracuse University, the new SensGard Hearing Protection Device does not 'block' excessive noise, but channels it into small chambers located above the earpieces where it is refracted and cancelled. Unlike earplugs, which must be inserted into the ear canal, or earmuffs which cover the entire ear, the SensGard device rests comfortably at the entrance to the ear canal where it uses the mechanical energy inherent in sound waves to draw hazardous noise away from the sensitive inner ear. The device is totally passive and uses no electronics or batteries.

Other features of SensGard's new device are especially attractive to shooters. Named after inventor Dr. Jozef Zwislocki, one of the leading pioneers of modern audiology, the ZEM(TM) (Zwislocki Ear Muffler) hearing protection device weighs less than 2 oz. and is extremely comfortable to wear, even for long days on the range. The unit's low profile does not interfere with gun stocks, and when not in use, the units fold up for convenient storage in a shirt pocket, or can hang comfortably around the neck. The units cost a fraction of the price of earmuffs and can be donned in seconds.

Perhaps the most impressive feature of the SensGard ZEM technology is that it blocks harmful sound while allowing high speech intelligibility without distortion. This means users can carry on conversations without removing the devices, and readily hear range instructions or warning sounds.

In independent tests conducted to ANSI S3.19-1974, the 26 NRR SensGard ZEM unit achieved a mean attenuation average of 32.8 dB in the low 125 Hz to 500 Hz frequency range. These low frequency noises are the ones that typically mask speech communication, and this level of attenuation makes the SensGard units better able to reduce sounds than most other hearing protection products. In the mid-range, between 500 Hz and 2000 Hz (the frequency of most speech), attenuation characteristics were flat, averaging around 33 dB, meaning sound is reduced evenly. This lessens distortion and maintains high speech intelligibility. Above 2000 Hz -- the most damaging frequencies to the human ear -- the mean attenuation average rose appreciably to 37.8, making the ZEM units even more effective hearing protectors.

But perhaps the best testimony to the effectiveness of the SensGard hearing protection device was offered by ShootForum.com's "Mammoth Hearing Protection Test 2009." The Forum ranked a UK brand of the SensGard device, the "Napier Pro 9," second only to custom molded electronic ear plugs and better than more expensive electronic muffs. "These are unlike anything you have seen before!" said editor Kevin, who initially feared the SensGard units would be "too delicate" to be effective. But, he added, "I couldn't have been more wrong... I can strongly recommend these. Amazing value for money and much more user friendly than either disposable plugs or passive muffs."

SensGard Hearing Protection Devices are available through a number of distributors. See their website at http://www.sensgard.com for details.
