C&K Develops Ultra Low Profile, Micro-Miniature, Side-Actuated Detect Switch

Versatile switch sits just 1.9 mm off PC board; features extended life span...

NEWTON, MA (August 4, 2009) - C&K Components, a leading international supplier of tact switches, toggle, rocker and pushbutton switches, and smart card interconnect devices, has developed a new series of micro-miniature, side-actuated detect switches. Designated the GDS Series, the ultra low profile detect switches can be actuated from either the X or Y axes, providing maximum versatility in a variety of applications.

"Not only do the switches sit just 1.9 mm off the PC board to meet size constraints, but the ability to actuate the switch from either direction combined with the extended life span make the switches ideal for a number of portable applications," said David Webber, product director for C&K Components. "The GDS Series switches are being deployed in consumer electronics, computers, medical equipment, mobile communications devices, and ATCA and MicroTCA equipment."

The GDS Series detect switches feature a low maximum actuation force of only 30 grams. Contact rating is 1mA @ 5VDC, with a maximum initial contact resistance of 1W and a minimum insulation resistance of 100MW between adjacent contacts. Minimum mechanical and electrical life is to 100,000 cycles and operating temperature ranges from -20°C to +70°C. The GDS Series switches are pick and place compatible and available in tape and reel packaging (5,000 pieces per reel). The switches are RoHS compliant and compatible.

Typical pricing for the GDS Series ultra low profile, micro-miniature, side-actuated detect switches is approximately $0.52 each in quantities of 10,000 pieces.
