New Ultra Light Weight Accelerometer For Vibration Measurements On Small Structures

Kistler Instrument is pleased to announce the release of a new ultra miniature ceramic shear accelerometer type 8778A500 for general vibration measurements on small, light weight structures. Weighing only 0.29 gram, the physical size is much smaller than the 10-32 electrical connector that terminates the end of integral coaxial cable used to conduct power and signal.

The 8778 accelerometer features a high vibration measurement sensitivity of 10 mV/g with a measuring range of 0 to 500g and a ± 5% frequency response of 2 to 9000 Hz. Changes in dynamic response due to accelerometer mass loading is minimized when using the unit. The unit's construction is a combination titanium housing and hard anodized aluminum base which provides ground isolation. The piezo-ceramic sensing element oriented in a shear mode configuration provides immunity to base bending and thermal influences.

The 877A500 accelerometer contains a built-in charge amplifier that provides a low impedance voltage output, allowing the use of standard low cost cabling. This voltage mode sensor, is CE compliant and can be powered by a wide variety of Kistler Piezotron(R) Coupler/Signal Conditioners or from any industry standard IEPE power source.

Typical applications include PC Board stress screening, critical component evaluation on disk drive assemblies.

Kistler is a worldwide supplier of precision instrumentation for the measurement of, pressure, force and acceleration serving the R&D, Industrial and OEM Communities.
