FREMONT, Calif. -(July 21, 2009)- Phihong, one of the most trusted names in power electronics, has developed a new 2.75W compact, fixed-blade USB charger, designated PSM03A-050Q, that features a 5VDC output. Ideal for applications including MP3 players, PDAs, digital cameras, and other personal electronics, the low-cost USB adapter meets ENERGY STARŽ EPS Version 2.0 and the European Commission's Integrated Product Policy requirements, both of which are voluntary.

Utilizing less than 0.03W power at no load, which is 90% less than the maximum 0.3W AC-DC no-load power allowed of 0 to 50W power supplies in order to be considered ENERGY STAR EPS Version 2.0-compliant, the PSM03A-050Q features ENERGY STAR Level V efficiency markings and operates at a minimum of 63.7% average efficiency. Its minimal noload current draw has also earned the 2.75W USB adapter the European Commission's 5-Star standby power rating for mobile device chargers.
The adapter also features constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) control, applying a high current across the discharged battery to provide rapid charging and then, after the battery reaches its final termination voltage, switching to a constant voltage mode of operation to maintain the battery at its termination voltage level. Additionally, featuring cUL/UL, CE, and IEEE1725 safety markings and approvals, the PSM03A-050Q provides over-voltage protection up to a maximum of 8.5VDC, as well as short-circuit protection.
