Intense Ltd. Announces New Higher Power, Higher Efficiency 1550nm Eye Safe Laser Diodes

Munich, Germany - 15 June 2009 - Intense Ltd., developer of next generation semiconductor lasers, systems and solutions, today announced the new Series 2400 eye safe laser diodes at World of Photonics 2009 in Munich.

The Series 2400 are 1550nm short pulsed single emitters and stacks that have been redesigned for higher power and efficiency. The single emitters are available in 75µm to 150µm junction lengths, with power levels of 6W to 12W.

Individual emitters can be stacked in a mini bar configuration to provide up to 48W of output power.

"The defense, medical, and industrial markets recognize the inherent benefit of eye safe wavelengths," stated Kevin Laughlin, VP High Power Laser Global Sales at Intense, Ltd. "In addition, end users have been challenging us with new power, efficiency, and packaging requirements. The end result is the new Series 2400 lasers which have been re-engineered for excellent reliability and quantum efficiency."

The Series 2400 laser diodes are designed for military and industrial applications, including range finding, proximity fusing/sensing, weapons simulation, countermeasures, geo-surveying, and adaptive cruise control. The product family includes five configurations:

+ Single Emitters: 2410 @ 6W, 2424 @ 12W Linear and Standard Arrays:
+ 2410-2S @ 12W, 2424-2S @ 24W, 2424-4S @ 48W

The Series 2400 are available in a variety of low inductance packages, including 5.6MM, 9MM, TO5, and TO18. They also can be fiber coupled in 200µm or 400µm core fibers, depending on the configuration. Other wavelengths from 1400nm - 1600nm are available on request.

Laughlin stated, "Our ability to offer high power fiber coupling for the Series 2400 gives end users in these markets a new level of flexibility.
This allows them to add new capabilities to existing designs, opening doors on applications that were not previously considered."

Pricing and Delivery

The Series 2400 short pulse laser diodes are available for immediate delivery. Prices start at US$146 in quantities of 50.
