Ault Incorporated Announces Two-Stage Lead Acid Battery Chargers

New chargers protect against "memory effect" to optimize power in portable home health care, industrial and telecommunications equipment

MINNEAPOLIS - March 11, 2002 - Ault Incorporated, a leading North American manufacturer of external power conversion products (Nasdaq: AULT), today announced its new Two-Stage Lead Acid Battery Chargers, the BVL Series, to meet the growing needs for powering portable home health care, industrial and back-up telecom equipment.

The new charger optimizes the life of lead acid batteries by providing protection against "memory effect," the gradual reduction of power, caused by repeated partial and/or fast charging of batteries. The BVL Series chargers include automatic voltage switchover technology that senses battery current, drives it to a pre-determined level and then transfers the charge from fast to float.

The Ault BVL Series is a small, stand-alone product that addresses the market need for a low-power, low-cost charger for lead acid batteries. Lead acid battery use remains high due to its broad availability worldwide, proven reliability, deep discharge record and wide operating temperature range.

The BVL Series features both fast and float charges ranging from 7.35 to 29.40 VDC and 6.90 to 27.60 VDC, respectively. LED indicators show On/Off and battery charged/discharged statuses.

To meet the low-power requirements for a broad range of portable equipment, six BVL Series models are available. Ault features two models in each of the following voltages: 6V, 12V and 24V.

Constructed in a black, impact-resistant polycarbonate case measuring 4.20 (L) X 2.60 (W) X 1.46 (H) in., the charger weighs 10 ounces and has an IEC 320 with ground configuration rating. The charger complies with EMI-RFI regulations and carries safety agency approvals for CULus 1950, and TUV/EN60950. Modified and custom designs also are available to meet specific OEM requirements.

The new charger is available for under $20.00 in OEM quantities beginning at 1,000 units.

Ault is the largest independent manufacturer of power conversion products based in North America. The company is the leading supplier to OEMs in the datacom/telecom convergence market, which includes DSL and cable modems, wireline and wireless communications equipment, medical equipment and networking hardware.
