Surface Mount Pin Diode Switches handle 100 W C.W. RF power.

June 12, 2009 - Offered in asymmetrical and symmetrical SP2T topologies, MSW2000 switches incorporate high voltage PIN diodes and passive devices within ceramic substrate. They function in 2 frequency bands; 20-700 and 400-4000 MHz, and are available in compact surface mount packages measuring 8 x 5 x 2.5 mm. Capable of operating at +5, +28, and +50 Vdc power, units are suited for use in high power switch applications up to 4 GHz, and applications requiring high volume, solder re-flow manufacturing.

Surface Mount Pin Diode Switches Handle 100W C.W. RF Power

Londonderry, NH - Aeroflex / Metelics, a designer and manufacturer of RF/Microwave semiconductor devices and components, is pleased to announce the release of a family of surface mount, silicon PIN diode SP2T switches with power handling capability up to 100 W C.W. incident RF power. They are optimized to function in two frequency bands of interest: 20 - 700 MHz, and 400 MHZ - 4000 MHz, and are available in compact surface mount packages measuring 8mm L x 5mm W x 2.5 mm H.

The MSW2000 series of surface mount PIN diode SP2T switches is manufactured using Aeroflex / Metelics' proven hybrid manufacturing process incorporating high voltage PIN diodes and passive devices within a ceramic substrate. Both asymmetrical and symmetrical SP2T topologies are offered. The asymmetrical SP2T provides Tx/Ant insertion loss of 0.20dB, with 20 dB return loss and 40 dB Tx/Rx isolation. Ant/Rx loss is similar at 0.3 dB and 20 dB return loss. Tx/Ant incident power handling is rated at + 50 dBm CW (100W) and + 57 dBm peak power @ 50 µS RF pulse width at 10 % duty cycle@ +85°C. IIP3 is better than + 90 dBm @ 500 MHz. The SP2T switches are capable of operating from + 5V, + 28 V, and + 50V DC power.

These SP2T switches deliver superior low and high signal performance as compared to MMIC devices in QFN packages. They are ideal for use in higher power switch applications up to 4 GHz, and other applications requiring high volume, surface mount, solder re-flow manufacturing. These products are durable, reliable, and capable of meeting all military, commercial, and industrial environments. They are also RoHS compliant.

Fred Gilligan, Director of Product Development at Aeroflex / Metelics explains, "This surface mount switch product family provides exceptional switching performance vs. comparable MMIC products to meet the growing high volume, high performance requirements in the Military Radio, IED, and WiMax market segments."

These products are available in high volume tape-reel and tube through Aeroflex / Metelics distribution networks.
