Beyond(TM) Moves to Milling; Many More Parts Per Edge

(LATROBE, PA) - Meeting with enthusiastic response from metalworking companies due to improved productivity and longer tool life, the new Beyond(TM) line of high-performance turning products from Kennametal is now being extended to indexable milling inserts. Two new grades are now available for machining steel, cast iron, and stainless steel workpiece materials:

o KC915M (KCK15) - This dry-milling grade is suitable for all applications in grey cast iron and grey cast iron with nodular graphite. It can also be used to finish-mill low-alloyed steel.

o KC935M (KCPK30) - A dry milling grade suitable for all applications in plain and alloyed steel, stainless steel, grey cast iron, grey cast iron with nodular graphite, and certain high-temperature alloys.

"In both grades, we've seen significantly increased part production in field tests across a variety of work materials, " says Nick Gaten, manager, global milling team, Kennametal. "For example, milling hydrant elbows out of grey cast iron, the new KCK15 inserts yielded nearly twice the number of parts as the previous version run at the same milling conditions. In addition to fluid power, many energy, automotive, die/mold, heavy equipment, and general engineering applications stand to benefit greatly from these products."

All the new milling insert grades share the breakthrough performance characteristics of the entire Beyond line - micro-polished edges that improve edge toughness, proprietary post-coat treatment that reduces depth-of-cut notching, and a fine-grained alumina layer that enhances coating integrity at higher cutting speeds.
