Ophir-Spiricon's New Laser Power/Energy Meter Combines High Damage Threshold, High Repetition Rate, and Widest Range of Wavelengths

December 17, 2008 - Logan, UT - Ophir-Spiricon, the global leader in precision laser measurement equipment, today announced the PE50-DIF Pyroelectric Detector, the first laser power/energy detector to combine high damage threshold and high repetition rates with the widest range of wavelengths in the industry, from UV to Near IR. The PE50-DIF accurately measures high repetition rate lasers over the broadest spectral range - 193 nm to 2.94 µm. The detector measures pulse widths to 10 ms and pulse rates to 3000 Hz. While most high damage threshold detectors require multiple diffusers to cover the spectral range, the PE50-DIF uses a single diffuser to cover UV, Visible, and Near IR wavelengths. This results in an accurate and flexible system that handles a wide range of measurement requirements.

The PE50-DIF Pyroelectric Detector features a 35mm aperture. For short pulses, the detector measures repetition rates to 3000 Hz with pulse widths of up to 30 µs. For long pulses, the detector measures repetition rates to 250 Hz with pulse widths of up to 1 ms. The PE50-DIF provides the highest damage threshold in the industry for UV wavelengths and is among the highest for all others, ranging from 1 J/cm2 at <100 ns to 40 J/cm2 at 1 ms. A high accuracy, high repeatability detector, millions of pulses can be measured with no change in calibration.

"Ophir's PE50-DIF pyroelectric detector features the highest damage thresholds, highest rep rate, and longest pulse widths in the industry," stated Ephraim Greenfield, VP Engineering, Laser Measurement Group, Ophir-Spiricon, Inc. "Built-in wavelength correction and high damage thresholds ensure the PE50-DIF provides the accuracy and repeatability needed for a diverse range of laser measurement applications, from photolithography to Nd:YAG laser welding."

The PE50-DIF Pyroelectric Detector can do virtually everything a standard thermal head can do, such as power measurement with repetitive pulses, single shot energy, and laser power tuning. Users are provided with a wide range of information about the laser being tested, including pulse energy, average power, frequency, minimum and maximum values, missing pulses, time jitter, and standard deviation. Pulse energies can be displayed numerically or in graphs. Up to 50,000 points of data can be stored on-board in nonvolatile memory and can be sent to a computer for analysis and storage.

The PE50-DIF works with all Ophir smart displays or PC interfaces, including the Orion PE, Nova, Nova II, Vega, LaserStar, USBI, Pulsar, and Quasar. Each display features a "Smart Connector" interface that automatically configures and calibrates the display when plugged into one of the company's measurement heads.

Pricing and Availability
The PE50-DIF Pyroelectric Detector is available now. Prices from US$1500.
