Alpha Wire Achieves UL WTTC Approval

Cables Are Designed to Meet the Stringent Requirements for Use in Wind Turbine Tray Cables in Accordance with UL Subject 2277.

Elizabeth, NJ, October 20, 2008 -- Alpha Wire Company announced that it will offer a variety of cables approved by Underwriters Laboratories as Wind Turbine Tray Cable. These cables will feature a 1000-volt rating with an operating temperature range of -50°C up to 200°C, depending on the specific materials used. The cables are well suited to applications involving power distribution, control, and monitoring within the wind turbine. By their nature, wind turbines demand high-performance, high-reliability interconnections to minimize expensive service calls.

Wind Turbine Tray Cable (WTTC) is designed for use within wind turbine generators in accordance with National Electrical Code (NEC) Article 336 and other various components as specified in the NEC.

"With the U.S. wind power industry shattering all previous records in 2007, designers are increasingly looking towards standards and standards-based products to make it easier and faster to specify components. Alpha Wire is one of the first manufacturers to obtain WTTC approval," said Mike Dugar, Senior Product Manager at Alpha Wire. "We have a variety of cables that meet WTTC requirements within the turbine, giving designers and users more choice in meeting specific needs within the system."

Cables are available in a range of different insulation and jacket materials, a variety of shielding options as well as the optional approvals mentioned below.

Sunlight resistance
Oil resistance (I and II)
FT-4 or IEEE 1202 flame resistance
