Basler Introduces the sprint 8k Line Scan Camera with Outstanding Speed
Ahrensburg, 3 July 2008 - Basler Vision Technologies is introducing a new member of the sprint line scan camera family: the sprint 8k. A unique dual line CMOS sensor design provides outstanding image quality at a maximum line rate of 70 kHz which has not been reached before at the resolution of 8192 pixel. Several useful features and a wide variety of available accessories assure excellent inspection results and easy adaptation to the application.
The Basler sprint line scan family is based on a next generation pixel design that combines the positive attributes of CCD and CMOS in a dual line sensor. This sensor was designed to be extremely sensitive and to show very low noise. These features are critical in order to reach best results at low light conditions and high line rates which are very common in line scan applications.
With the Basler sprint 8k, speed and throughput can be increased significantly. Alternatively, the Basler sprint 8k can be used to scan more parts in a certain time due to the higher resolution. The performance parameters and optional features make the Basler sprint 8k camera a powerful and flexible tool that can help make companies using vision technology more competitive.
The cameras in the sprint family will include powerful features such as an AOI (area of interest) with speed increase, shading correction, test images, line stamps, configuration sets, and error condition detection. Two types of shading correction (PRNU and DSNU correction) will let users correct for image variations, that may result from optics, lighting, or sensor performance. The more homogeneous behavior provided by shading correction is a major advantage for many vision applications. A time delayed line sum feature is also included that can double the camera's sensitivity and increase the SNR by up to 3 dB. This is achieved by using the two lines in the sensor to scan each area on the object twice with time delay and then combining the collected information.
Thanks to the very sensitive pixel of the sprint, users can continue to work with the existing lighting system in their vision system, just at a higher speed. Or, the Basler sprint can be used at the same speed with a weaker and less expensive lighting system.
To seamlessly integrate the sprint 8k with its pixel pitch of 10µm into a certain application, two different lens mount adapters are available. Together with a wide variety of adapters and accessories, the various lens systems of several vendors can be used. Thus, lens systems with magnifications from 80mm to 150mm and even more can be applied. This results in many different optical parameters like working distance, optical resolution, object size, and others. This makes it easy to adapt the sprint 8k to the application.
The Basler sprint series already includes monochrome cameras with resolutions of 2k and 4k. Color versions for all resolutions will be introduced later this year.
