Including Series S52FCY with 21 inch and S52FCYM with 27 metric sizes, Shaft Reducers and Extenders incorporate FairlocŪ fastening system, which consists of 2 slots that are machined into hub, one radially the other angularly, to create transverse wedge that remains attached to solid portion of hub on one side. Adapter's female end fits 14 shaft diameters ranging from .1200-.4998 in. (3-12 mm), while male side consists of shafts ranging in diameter from .1247-.4997 in. (3-12 mm).

FairlocŪ Shaft Reducers & Extenders from Sterling Instrument Eliminate the Need for Special Shafting
(New Hyde Park, NY; August 28, 2008) -- New Shaft adapters from Sterling Instrument (an ISO 9001:2000 + AS9100B manufacturer) eliminate the need for special shafting. There are 21 inch and 27 metric size stainless steel adapters, identified as the S52FCY- (inch), S52FCYM (metric) series, are high precision, with tight tolerances on bores, shank and bore/shank concentricity.
The female end of the adapter is designed to fit 14 shaft diameters ranging from .1200" to .4998" (3 mm to 12 mm) and incorporates the FairlocŪ integral fastening system. FairlocŪ is a patented integral hub fastener which eliminates marred shafts. The choice of FairlocŪ hubs permits frequent phase adjustment, timing and position adjustment while adding positive metal-to-metal fastening strength along both hub sections. The FairlocŪ integral hub fastener consists of two slots that are machined into the hub, one radially the other angularly, to create a transverse wedge which remains attached to the solid portion of the hub on one side. The resultant cantilevered clamping section has a tapped hole to accept a cap screw which passes through a clearance hole in the solid portion of the hub, and into a threaded hole in the transverse wedge section. As the screw is tightened, the cantilevered section clamps the shaft securely. The screw can be tightened and released repeatedly without marring the shaft or affecting its torque-transmitting abilities.
The male side of the adapter consists of shafts ranging in diameter from .1247" to .4997" (3 mm to 12 mm). For instance, an adapter with a female side designed to accommodate a .2405" shaft has at the other end shafts with diameters of 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", or 3/8".
