Redundancy Control Unit is suited for broadcast applications.
September 17, 2008 -
Supporting redundant VSAT and mobile/fixed uplink station configurations, RCU 5000 controls whole uplink chain including modulator, upconverter, and amplifiers. For networks based on VSAT platforms SkyWAN®/SkyARCS, unit controls redundancy switching of indoor units and RF transmitters. It has RF inhibit functionality and manages up to 3:1 redundant transmit chains: up to 4 high power amplifiers and 3 waveguide/coax switches can be controlled manually, automatically, or by web interface.

ND SatCom Introduces Advanced Redundancy Control Unit for Broadcast Solutions and SkyWAN® VSAT Systems
ND SatCom Controller Portfolio Extension for Improved Usability and Reliability
Friedrichshafen, September 9, 2008 - ND SatCom, an SES ASTRA company, introduces at IBC 2008 in Amsterdam an advanced version of its RCU 5000 (Redundancy Control Unit), which supports redundant VSAT as well as redundant mobile and fixed uplink station configurations for broadcast applications.
The RCU 5000 is exhibited at ND SatCom's outdoor booth OE320 from September 12-16, 2008.
The 2RU component is designed for controlling the whole uplink chain including modulator, upconverter and high power amplifiers. Johann Pohany, CTO of ND SatCom, states: "As ND SatCom's core components for customer networks and applications are developed and manufactured inhouse, they are precisely tailored to our satcom solutions." In networks based on ND SatCom's VSAT platforms SkyWAN® and SkyARCS, the RCU 5000 controls the redundancy switching of IDUs (Indoor Unit) and the RFT 5000 (Radio Frequency Transmitter). As a result of customer feedback, ND SatCom equipped the RCU 5000 with redundant power supplies which provides a highest level of reliability. "Our advanced RCU 5000 is a single solution for manifold redundant applications in which availability is crucial.
RCU 5000 combines this with a minimum of additional hardware complexity to ideally suit SNG applications and Air Traffic Control networks in the governmental sector", Pohany says.
The redundancy controller contains RF inhibit functionality and manages up to 3:1 redundant transmit chains: Up to four ND SatCom High Power Amplifiers (HPA) and three waveguide/coax switches can be controlled either manually, automatically or by web interface. Main functions are accessible by self-explaining buttons. A fully graphical color display with animated block diagrams makes the RCU 5000 easy to operate with only minimal technical training.
